Professional Experience Timeline

Currently: Harvey teaches in basketball academies in Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, South Africa, Korea, Japan, and throughout Europe.

1980 – 1985

1980 (S): Writes his first book on shooting a basketball.

1982 (F): Tries out for the NBA. After making the final cut, chosen by Marty Blake (then Chief Scout of the NBA) to attend two training camps for other NBA Teams to view his talent. Goes on to training camps in Lethbridge, Canada, and Billings, Montana. Decides calling is to teach rather than play.

1982 – 90: Santa Fe Trail Jr. High School - Olathe, Kansas

Head Basketball Coach, Boys and Girls. Starts the girls’ basketball program at Santa Fe Trail and coaches the boys’ team to three one-loss seasons.

1983 – 89: Shooting Development Coach and Graduate Assistant of the Kansas University Women’s Basketball. Shooting Development Coach for every major college and university in Missouri and Kansas, and a member of Larry Brown’s KU Basketball Camp Coaches Staff.

1985 (F): Starts the first Harvey’s "Shooter’s "Touch" Academy, the first individual and small group, "Player Development" program in the State of Kansas.

1986 – 2001

1986 (S): Trains his first NBA player, Clay Johnson, whom later wins an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers.

1986 - 1998: Tours the United States as Shooting Coach with top-notch NCAA Women’s Basketball coaches (World-Wide Sports) and for the Lynette Woodard free basketball camps sponsored by Dial Soap.

1987 – 1988: Trains his first WNBA player, Lynette Woodard, at the University of Kansas for the 1988 Olympics.

1988 – 1990: Head Assistant Coach, three Girls 6A Basketball State Championships at Leavenworth High School.

1990 - 1991: Coaches a 13U AAU team to a second place National Championship.

1992 – 93: Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy tours the entire State of Florida, from Miami to Pensacola, teaching girls how to shoot a basketball.

1993 (F): Writes the script and produces his first Shooting Development Video and Instructional Poster that sells nationally.

1994 – 1999: Six years as Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Pine Castle Christian Academy, Orlando, Florida. The athletic program is nominated three times for the Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award given out by the FHSAA.

1995 – 1996: Coaches Team Florida Girls Select Team, the best players throughout the State of Florida. Every player receives a NCAA Division 1 Scholarship. Three players sign scholarships at the University of Florida.

1996 (S): Writes his second book, "Teacher Teacher", a true story about the successes and failures of an AAU basketball team.

1996 – 2000: Spends four summers working in a training camp and on court training with WNBA Houston Comets.

1999 – 2000: Assistant coach at the University of South Alabama (One year tenure). Two summers as Liaison Officer for National Youth Sports Program. Head Coach for the WNBL Mobile Majesty. In charge of all aspects of the program (One year tenure).

2000 – 2001: Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy private training with Antonio Lang (76’ers) in Mobile, Alabama.

2001 – 2002: The continuation of Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy as a Partnering Training Program in Orlando, Florida.

2001 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with Valencia West Community College.

2001 (F): Marvin Harvey returns to Orlando, Florida. That Fall he becomes the Head Coach for Basketball Travelers, NCAA East Coast Tour. He coaches against Connecticut, Rutgers, and Boston College, to name a few.

2001 (W): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with the Park Central Field House.

2002 – 2006

2002 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with the State of Florida, AAU office.


2002 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with the Florida Basketball and Volleyball Association, FBVA West.

2002 (F): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy private training with Dameon, Dominique, and Gerald Wilkins through partnering with Park Central Field House.

2002 (W): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy, private training with Mike Miller (Orlando Magic) through partnering with Park Central Field House.

2003 (F): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy private training with Raja Bell (Utah Jazz).

2003 (W): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with the RDV Sportsplex, home of the Orlando Magic.

2004 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy hosts PRO-AM, Merit Management Group, Inc. WNBA Free Agent Camp.

2004 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with the Champions Sports Complex of Orlando as the "new choice for unlimited shooting development".

2004 (SU): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with Spain and runs basketball camp in the country.

2004 (SU): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with Monterrey, Mexico Basketball to host camps.

2004 (F): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy private training with Marie Ferdinand (San Antonio Stars).

2004 (F): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy private training with Chucky Atkins (LA Lakers), Brandon Hunter (Orlando Magic), and Vince Carter (Toronto).

2004 (W): Brazilian Team trains at Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy in Orlando.

2005 (S): Marvin Harvey releases his third book, "The New Fundamentals".

2005 (S): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy hosts PRO-AM, Merit Management Group, Inc. WNBA free Agent Camp.

2005 (SU): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy partners with YMCA. Hosts basketball camps at both Dr. Phillips location and Lake Nona.

2005 (SU): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy hosts 2nd camp in Monterrey, Mexico.

2005 (SU): Harvey’s "Shooter’s Touch" Academy holds Men’s NCAA Shooting Development Clinic.
